The USA has picked fights with almost every nation and lost a lot of them over the centuries.  I love how nobody ever demonizes Spain for colonizing it before the US even existed. Do you know what the Philippines was before Spanish settlement?  The US occupied the Philippines after the Spanish American war with the promise of securing Philippine independence from Spain.
